Happy new month!
It’s October, and that means it’s time for all things spooky and haunted. It’s time for long nights watching Halloween-themed movies, a low-hanging fog in the mornings, and a crisp chill that rattles your bones throughout the day. As our world becomes more and more cluttered with negativity and hardship, it’s time to take a step back and look over the new month with hopes for the future.

The beauty of a new month is a new set of goals. Taking a glance at the previous month, examine what you were able to accomplish and what you couldn’t get to. Carry on some goals to the next month, or scrap it all, and start with a clean slate.
September proved to be a harrowing rollercoaster for me. Not only did I put a lot of things on my tiny plate, but I allowed myself to get overwhelmed at the prospects of a new month starting around the corner. When I let things go unplanned or come up on me out of nowhere, I can quickly spiral into a hole. Of course, this hole I fall into is one I dug up myself.
That’s why planning your month out is so important!
Realistically, giving yourself a set of reachable goals is a good barrier to help yourself stay afloat. If you know you already have a lot of things going on in a month, work around those things. Don’t overwhelm yourself with goals when you already have things set in stone going on.
October is a thrilling month for me! There are two events within the month that will help get my book further out into the world around me. One of my favorite shows will be premiering with a new season on the third. If you haven’t watched Vox Machina, give it a try! I was skeptical when I first watched, and then I ended up not being able to look away. And at the end of the month, my childhood best friend will be traveling to spend a week with me.
If you’re struggling to get into writing, think about how perfect the month of October is. Go on Pinterest and look up October writing prompts! You’ll be floored by the amount of things to pop up! Spend time every day writing one page short stories that are focused on some spooky prompts ranging from walking through a foggy cemetery or a werewolf in your school.
At the end of this month, to keep up with the theme of Halloween and to stretch our toes in some quick free-writing, a few blog posts will be primarily focused on some prompts I have hand-picked. I will write a quick short story for each post, and I encourage readers to participate! Take a look at the prompt, and if it speaks to you, set a timer for fifteen or thirty minutes and let the words flow out.
Take this first week of October to think about what it is you want to see by the end of this month. Take heed in what you already have going on, go easy on yourself, and don’t set unrealistic expectations. You are but one person, and the goals set at the beginning of the month is meant to help set you up with healthy habits, not bad ones.
There is so much out there for you to grasp onto, whether you are a writer or not. Be proud you have gotten this far, and be even prouder that there is still so much to go. You are successful. You are powerful. You can accomplish whatever you set out for you.
Thanks for tuning in. See you soon :)
